China: Xian To Shanghai

Image
After a good few days in the immaculate capital of China it was time to visit a place on my dad's bucket list, the city of Xi'an. After a five hour journey on the high speed train it was time to grab a Tsingtao and grab some of the local food. Interestingly enough each place in China has their own unique food and in Xi'an I had found some noodles that I had never seen before. The next day it was time to go to one of the most famous historical sites in China, the terracotta warriors museum. I have to say it is an absolute pain to get to, I found my way to the main train station to ask the tourist information staff who didn't speak any damn English. They told me there were no buses to get to the museum and I had to get a taxi for a tenner instead.  Despite this place being quite an amazing place to think about. A literal army of individually sculpted terracotta men and they haven't even excavated the bigger picture. This place feels a little less breathtaki...

A Laowai In Beijing

Everyone knows about what China's all about but few will get the chance to visit this enigma of a country. Sadly due to China's tumultuous history of war the summer Palace had to be restored after it had been mostly destroyed. Although it feels quite authentic, it does not represent the site that was there during historical periods of China. The day after I had to see the Great Wall of China, one of the seven wonders of ...

Hong Kong is definitely a place I had been wanting to travel to for a while. The Hong Kong you see on TV is all about skyscraper buildings, high prices and busy people. I'm here to say that Hong Kong is more than that and it is never a dull moment in such a fantastic city. When I first arrived I spent an hour trying to find a way to get to my hostel in Aberdeen. The great thing about Hong Kong is that it's actually quite easy and economical to get around if you use the MTR and simply walk around. What can be said about Hong Kong is that the British influence can be noted like the names of streets, the trams and the fact that English so well spoken among the locals. One of the things I had to do in Hong Kong of course was to see Victoria Peak and the Avenue of the Stars. It was possible t...
