Bratislava or Bratisnada?

Image
I went to Bratislava because it was a cheap flight to London instead of from Budapest. One can be forgiven for never even knowing of the Slovakian capital. I'll be honest to say that Bratislava doesn't have too much to offer, my Brazilian friend even jokingly called it Bratisnada. When I arrived out of the bus terminal I had seen some soviet apartments and as I was walking towards the main street I was greeted with a sight of what looked like a dump of abandoned home appliances. Not a great introduction to the city, after I had left my bag at my hostel, I went to MacDonald's for dinner and I had noticed a huge difference in the MacDonald's that you don't get in Scotland. You can order a BEER with your meal in Slovakian Macdonald's, how insane is that? On a cold and dark January evening, I navigated my way through the city to walk towards Bratislava Castle, the castle is lit up, making it clearly visible and overlooks the entire city on a hill. Once I rea...

Budapest - The Pearl of the Danube

Image
Seeing as a Ryanair flight to Budapest was at such a great price, I could not slip up the opportunity to visit a city that so many people talk about how great it is and it was a place I had never visited, so I wanted to experience something new. When I had arrived it was a very cold evening and I decided to walk along the Danube and see the parliament building. The city looks amazing at night with everything being lit up, the grandiose architecture everywhere within the city centre will have you lost for words. After my first day in Budapest, I was already amazed by the charming aesthetic of the buildings, I walked from my hostel at Oktogon towards Heroes' Square, a series of statues dedicated to the national heroes of Hungary. I'd say that this place isn't too impressive to look at during the day, but during the night it feels much more magical. Close by the Heroes' Square is a castle in a park which is a great place for pictures, but nothing much else, there do...

A Guide To London - What Should You See?

Image
London is one of my favourite cities in the world, London is famous for the queen, Big Ben and its amazing prices. But it's a double-edged sword, London is also famous for rude people, crowded streets and ridiculous prices. London is not for everyone, I completely understand that and that is why I would never live there. What do I Like Most About London? Before I get into my guide, I'd like to mention what I like most about London - the massive diversity, not just that there are so many cultures represented in the city, but also the fact that there is so much to see and do. This guide will cover the best and most iconic things to see in London, as I can't cover everything because there is so much to see and do in such a sprawling metropolis. As for diversity, there are so many restaurants that have different cuisines from many countries all over the world and things that you can have in London that are scarce in Scotland. An example of this is that nearby to whe...

My Most Intense Experiences From Rio

Image
In 2018, I spent two months of my life in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as a volunteer for an NGO called Edumais which focused on teaching English to children and adolescents from underprivileged backgrounds. When I was in my last year of high school, I knew I wanted to spend some time somewhere in Latin America and when I was given the opportunity I took it without thinking how intense the experience could possibly be as Rio de Janeiro does not have a favourable reputation. My time in Rio was excellent, I spent my free time on the beach, learned how to surf and watched Flamengo matches.  What had to be said though was that being in Rio was intense, I would hear gunshots from outside of the apartment I stayed in and even saw the military police and army at work. Hardly anyone could speak English - not even the woman I stayed with or the people I had befriended.  My first wildly intense experience was when I was walking from the apartment I stayed in to Leblon and noticed ...
