  Scotland is a brilliant country to visit and we are extremely welcome to tourists, however, there are just some things you should not do if you come to live here or simply visit as a tourist. Unfortunately, Scotland has fallen victim to some negative stereotypes which creates misconceptions about us and in some ways Scotland is misunderstood. In reality, Scotland is a country with very warm people, but there are some things that you shouldn't do if you don't want to get on the wrong side of them.  1. Don't Call Scotland A Part Of England And Don't Get Us Mixed Up With Ireland Scotland and England are both in the UK and that leads people to think Scotland is just a part of England and somehow, people seem to confuse Scotland and Ireland.   Scotland has become a hugely popular travel destination in recent years, this is because our natural sites are magnificent and our historical sites is worth taking a look at. I am proud to say that Scotland is a very safe country and a great place to visit, however, if you're looking for some warm weather, Scotland isn't the place for you. Public Transport Is Awful To take the train from London to Glasgow or Edinburgh, the train journey is going to be an absolute nightmare and the horror doesn't end there. All trains around Scotland are run by Scotrail and they are simply awful. Scotrail is hated by Scottish people universally for a number of reasons, primarily because it is extortionate. A ticket from Glasgow to Edinburgh is £13 which is just an hour journey and Glasgow to Inverness will be £40 at the cheapest. Scotrail trains are also quite dirty,...

  Glasgow has been my home since March and for most of my life, I have considered this city home and now I can truly say that it's an amazing city with plenty to offer. If you're looking for great museums and awesome bars, then Glasgow might just be worth visiting. It's also a very liveable city and loads of people come to the Western Scottish city as the universities have a great reputation. Getting To Glasgow If you live in the UK, it's possible to take the train or coach to Glasgow, Glasgow central, Queen Street station and the coach terminal are all located right in the city centre. Flying to Glasgow is possibly easier and there are two airports, Glasgow airport and Prestwick airport.   I spent a week in Munlochy and on the Saturday my dad told me that we could go to Skye, I had never been to the legendary Isle of Skye before and to be honest I have only seen very few places in the Highlands. I had heard so much about this place and now that I have been there myself I have to say it is a very magical place that you should definitely visit. Visiting Skye isn't so easy, even now, the hotels are booking up all over the isle and it is very far from anywhere else. If you have a car, getting there is as easy as eating a bowl of cheerios as all you need to do is drive there. However, if you want to get there on public transport, there is no train, however you can get the bus from Inverness to Portree. However, exploring Skye by car will give you the best possible experience.  We were going to climb a Corbett, but as the weather was dreich, we decided to just go to Portree to see what it's like.   When I left for Brazil, I was elated to leave Scotland as I found Scotland to be really boring and rainy. However, now I see it as a huge privilege to live in such an amazing country, it's not perfect, just look at this  post . I say this with complete honesty, living in Scotland has more advantages than disadvantages and if you come to Scotland as a tourist, you will be blown away.  1. There Are NO Tuition Fees In Scotland If you are Scottish are an EU citizen, you can study at university without needing to pay for it. It's insane when Americans tell me how much they have to pay, just to go to university. While in England, some people will have to pay about £10,000 per year and to me that is just insane. I've been told that student debt is something that some people can spend years to pay off and there are loads of protests in England every year over how students are expected to pay such extortionate fees.  2.   If you asked me what my favourite country was, you might expect me to say Spain, Italy or even Scotland. But, honestly every time I've been to Germany, it has been an absolute blast and nothing bad has happened. It's unfortunate that many associate Germany with what happened in the Second World War as there is so much more to this remarkable country.  1. Germany Is Completely Safe The crime rate in Germany is very low and as a tourist, the chances of getting into any sort of danger would be extremely low. Police are everywhere in German cities and it's reassuring that they are there to make sure that we are safe. Even in touristy areas, there aren't people trying to scam tourists like in Italy and the risk of being pickpocketed is unheard of. The only thing to watch out for is the professional beggars, however they are completely harmless.
