Manila: A Day In Southeast Asia's Most Dangerous City

Image
On my way to Hong Kong for my China visa run I thought I'd drop by the Philippines to see what it is like. Although Manila is not really representative of what people go to the Philippines for. The Philippines prides itself in having amazing beaches and great weather. Manila is an urban nightmare, the public transport is terrible and the traffic makes it impossible to go across the city quickly enough. Manila also has a terrible reputation in terms of crime, however were are no guys on the street trying to sell me drugs and there was no-one who approached me in trying to rob me. However, when I was walking through a questionable looking neighbourhood known as San Andres I was approached by a scrawny old man who told I shouldn't be here because it is dangerous. He insisted on getting me a taxi to go to Fort Santiago he even came in the taxi with me and once we got there he tried to get money from me by asking for money for a fare to get back and I just ignored him. I guess tha...

Australia: Exploring Sydney's Iconic Sights

Image
What you have to know about Australia's cities is that they aren't as exciting as other cities I've visited on my travels. Melbourne has nothing too amazing, Adelaide has literally nothing and Sydney at least has things everyone knows about. If you're going to visit Australia in the winter time, you're probably not going to have the best time there. The weather that faced me in Sydney was hugely disappointing so maybe it's better in December. Australia does, however do better with its nature. Of course, we all know about the iconic view of Sydney harbour in the vibrant gardens in the centre of the city. The point I was standing at is known as Mrs Macquaries point. The view is really cool but the actual opera house isn't much. One of the most well known beaches in the world is known as Bondi Beach, it is in the suburb of Bondi a really unimpressive area to be honest. Not only that I'd say that Bondi Beach is no more special than Troon Beach. The we...

Australia: Gold Coast to Alice Springs

Image
Now let me tell you about the best thing to see in Australia which is the Outback and of course the most underwhelming place in Australia the Gold Coast. Even though Surfers Paradise in the Gold Coast has a greatly beautiful beach, despite its name it is a purely shambolic place to surf. The waves are so big and frequent. Because of this it is hard to give yourself time to position yourself and catch some waves making for a painful day in the water. The Gold Coast seems like a place for Australian families to go on holiday as there are shops purely for tourist tat and typical basic tourist traps like Ripley's believe it or not and the Hard Rock Cafe. The only other thing worth mentioning for the Gold Coast is the theme parks. The theme parks are nowhere near as good as the ones in Orlando, I'd recommend buying a day pass for all of them as you could do all of them in one day. Dreamworld, it has a good bit of everything, it has a zoo, huge rollercoasters, fun rides and even a wa...

Australia: Melbourne, Philip Island and Venus Bay

Image
My next leg of my travels has been in Australia, a huge country with nature and cities. I first came to Melbourne because I was able to stay with family friends there. They gave me a good insight into Australian life with a trip to an Aussie rules football match and a proper barbie. Melbourne is a huge city with the Eureka Skytower which is worth a visit but there isn't much else touristy in the city. They showed me Philip Island in which I saw seals and penguins in their natural habitat. I even tried to surf on Venus Bay although the waves were not enough to catch some good waves. I was even given some of Australia's tastiest snacks. I think that Timtams taste like penguins, however the snakes and the chocolate koalas were great.
