Hanoi, One Of My Favourite Asian Cities

If you are visiting Vietnam, you no doubt have to go to Hanoi and I visited during a very important time in terms of international politics, just before coming into Hanoi from a long train journey, I took a bus journey to take a second trip to Ha Long Bay, despite it being quite remote, seeing this place for the first time blew me away so I of course had to see it again. During my trip to Ha Long Bay I was asked by Chinese tourists for photos and due to the special event of Donald Trump Meeting Kim Jong Un, there were flags for the DPRK and USA everywhere in both Ha Long Bay and Hanoi. I even saw Kim Jong Un inside his car as he left Ha Long Bay.

So, what makes Hanoi so special then? Hanoi is a great place for backpackers as there are countless bars to drink incredibly cheap beer, hell they even have the record for the cheapest beer at about 20p known as "Bia Ha Noi" and in my opinion it is delicious. Hanoi street food is actually appealing as the banh mi and rice pancakes will satisfy your hunger. Banh mi is essentially a baguette sandwich and I'm surprised that there isn't a market for this in Europe and America.

To start off a visit in Hanoi it is important to not miss out on the museums, the women's museum and museum of ethnology are a bit boring in my opinion but the museum you simply must see is the Hanoi Hilton. Not just being a map from Call of Duty Black Ops but was also used as a museum for revolutionaries during French rule and later for Americans during the Vietnam War. Another interesting museum I visited was the citadel which gives an insight into the history of Hanoi. What you can't miss out on doing in Hanoi as well is going to the Ho Chi Minh complex. You can see where he lived and go into the mausoleum to pay respects to the national hero.

One of the most significant sites of Vietnam is the temple of literature, this place is one of the oldest universities in Vietnam and serves as a temple dedicated for confucianism. Despite the overwhelming amount of tourists it was fascinating to go inside and see. After that I went to see one of the other historical sites known as the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long. An interesting place to visit and will give you an understanding of Vietnamese history beyond the war. Of course I could not go to Vietnam without paying a visit for some Fanny ice cream, it is a chain that can only be found in Vietnam and I'd recommend having a lick of a fanny.
