A Weekend in Sweden

Image
Dark, cold and expensive. These are three words I would give to describe my visit to Stockholm. Am I saying it's not worth visiting? Not exactly, it was something different to see the city pitch black at 4PM and the cold atmosphere was perfect for a winter visit. The bright, yet cold sight Stockholm will welcome you with Even a walk through Glamlastan to look at the local shops is interesting, the local people are very nice and will welcome you with open arms. The island of Gamlastan has very colourful and aesthetically pleasing architecture which has stood the tests of time and everything there looks like it was perfectly placed. The streets of Gamlastan, looking nothing less than perfect What you may not expect on a visit to Stockholm is the Nobel Prize Museum which is centrally informative about Martin Luther king's struggle for civil rights in unfortunately too similar times in America. Easily the best thing to see is the ABBA museum, it will give you a feelin...

New Vlog

Image
I have uploaded to Youtube after a long time to talk about how safe it is to be in Rio de Janeiro, I didn't cover everything and may have had an overall negative attitude, this is because I had a bad experience on the last 3 days of my time in Brazil in which my money belt got stolen, the next day I had to wait hours for money to get wired to me, on the last day the police stop and searched me found money in my pocket with suspicion of it being drug money and stole 300 reais off me and in the airport the KLM staff did me a disservice of being so reluctant to check in my second bag. Apart from that whole ordeal, the experience of staying in Rio de Janeiro for 2 months was life-changing and unforgettable.

The MaracanĂ¢

Image
As I first timer for Brazilian football, I have to say it is a very unique spectacle, it does not compare to any Scottish football match I have been to. Tickets for a match to see Flamengo play at one of the most iconic stadiums in the world are surprisingly cheap, for me it only cost about four quid. The only hard part is getting from where you are and to the stadium. This involves taking the metro there and most likely it will be rush hour, rush hour on the Rio de Janeiro Metro is extremely intense as it involves being congested by a ridiculously huge amount of people which feels like you are being crushed like the Hillsborough disaster. Furthermore when you get there, getting inside the stadium is hugely confusing as you'll need to pick up your ticket and walk to where your allocation is. When you get through the hectic part of it, you will walk into the crowd of the stadium and see the huge crowds of black and red shirts. This makes for an extremely vibrant and excellent a...

The Amazon

Image
The Amazon is definitely worth visiting, though challenging, it is off the beaten track meaning that there are hardly any tourists. Most tourists are from Brazil themselves and this is because it is often overlooked due to it being really difficult to get to. For me it took a two hour flight from Buenos Aires to Sao Paulo from 10PM to 2AM, then going to a hotel next to the airport to sleep for 4 hours to then get a flight at 8:30AM and got there at 1PM. On the first day there was mismanagement with our hotel so we decided to go to a hotel nearby for one night where we just went to the pool during the sunset which was a great sight. The next morning we went over to a hotel more central to Manaus and we got tours in the Amazon organised. Make sure that you get a good price if you want a tour here, they could mug you off costing £1000 when I got it for about £120. Manaus is like a has-been actor from the 30s, there are opulent buildings such as the sought after opera which has been we...

Visiting Argentina

Image
Argentina had it's advantages and disadvantages, on one side, getting to Buenos Aires from an airport that they hadn't yet finished building was a nightmare, cold, winter-like weather and the people there were nice apart from being worked up towards us about the Falklands. I get it fam they're yours, I don't care. On the other side the sophisticated style of Buenos Aires, the Argentine steak and multicultural style of the country made it an interesting city to explore. In front of the palace you can see I am incognito with my England shirt Argentina's main selling point is definitely the delicious steak that is served in the traditional restaurants which are reminiscent of European culture. As well there is tango dancing which is genuinely worth seeing. Just looking at it makes you feel hungry, probably the best food I've had in my life During my time in Buenos Aires I decided to take the boat over to Uruguay,...

Iguazu falls

Image
Iguazu falls is simply an amazing sight, like something out of Jurassic Park and it even looks like someone just used a massive knife to cut the earth open. The Brazilian side has less to it compared to the Argentine side and the good thing about that is that you get plenty of stamps on your passport even for a single visit. The Argentine side is more of an adventure and has amazing views to offer which cannot be seen elsewhere, while wearing my 3s and a bulls top the magical experience made me feel like I had wings.

Rio de Janeiro

Image
After a few days in Rio de Janeiro I realised it is much better than you think, the city we see on the news is full of crime yet I had not experienced any danger during my time there. I went on a tour to see the big sites such as Christ the Redeemer and the Selaron steps and on the second day I watched the world cup with some new friends.

Climbing Ben Nevis

Image
As part of my volunteering in Brazil, I had done a fundraiser for the NGO that I will be volunteering for. On Saturday I decided to climb Ben Nevis, it took seven hours and after hurting my legs and getting sunburnt in boiling heat. It was definitely worth it for raising money for such a great cause. I am also very glad that people made such a kind effort to donate I'd like to thank: Simon Bates Gerry Weir  The Kellets Jamie Givan C RS Lewis Kennedy George McGregor Josh Carson Granny and Grandpa Mike Howard  Innes Lang Brian Fitzpatrick  Alice Cowley Mark Gibson Fraser Simpson Fraser Oliver Kenneth Wilson Dawn McCarfferty  Joy Bell Douglas Pete Duncan Teresa Kelly Wayne Alan Mackie Euan Love Sam Aimee Elder A Mills Gordon Dalyell C Dowers Kathy Annmaree, Andrew Lucas and Tansy Damian White David Nellaney Robert Kernaghan Karen Currie Gillian Williams Becky Tippett Darrell Fraser Megan U...
